Photoshoot with Lily…
Posted on March 8, 2010
Lily came to our studio yesterday to take some photos. At nearly 8 months old, she is one of our youngest subjects to date. Brought by her mom and grandmother, she had a great personality, and just loved to stare at the two of them, no matter where they were. The entire time she was with us, she looked at my lens just once! And with her tongue sticking out at me as almost to say “nanny nanny boo-boo”
She was a delight. I can’t wait to take more pictures of her and her family, perhaps again when she gets a little older.

Engagement Photos with Meghan and Mike
Posted on February 21, 2010
Well, it’s been awhile since an update, and I’ve missed it. I’ve neglected to update my blog, for we have been super busy with photo shoots, vacations, anniversaries, Christmas, and you name it! It’s nice to be writing here again.
Engagement shoot, what a great time! It was a bit cold, in fact it was actually snowing when we started, but even with the poor conditions, I think we got some excellent shots. A new location for us we tried out, was the James White Fort Near the women’s basketball hall of fame. Made for a neat backdrop for some close-ups.
These two make a great couple. You can really tell how much they love eachother, and I can’t wait to be a part of their wedding day.

Our Recommended DJ/MC Service in Knoxville
Posted on October 27, 2009
UPDATE: I just learned that Clayton has relocated his service. I am afraid I do not currently have a DJ to recommend.
Being a Wedding DJ for many years, i know what it takes to be successful at a wedding. While we no longer are in this business, I did want to introduce a company here in Knoxville that I highly recommend. The company name is Knox Wedding DJ, and the owner Clayton is doing a fantastic job! One of the best DJ’s I’ve seen. I asked him to tell me a little more about his company, so I could share it with my readers.
Q: Clayton, can you tell me how you got started, and a little about the history of your company?
A: Of course. I’ve been DJ’ing for 14 years now. I started out in radio washing the radio station’s company vehicles. I paid my dues and did anything I could to learn everything about the radio business. I worked my way from the ground up, from car washing, to studio board operations, and finally up to on-air talent. From there I began working in clubs and bars, doing stints in Nashville, Memphis, and Jackson TN. From there I transitioned over to a mobile business, where I have been doing primarily wedding receptions for the past 12 years. Each part of my experience has helped me get where I am today. Working in clubs I learned how to read a crowd and interact on a personal level with hundreds of people. Working for mobile disc jockey companies has taught me event planning and how to perform as a Master of Ceremonies. I think I have a unique DJ background that a lot of people in this business have never had the opportunity to explore.
Q: What’s your favorite part of DJ/MC’ing?
A: My favorite part of DJ’ing an event is seeing people of all ages get up and dance. I love to watch older couples lead the way and dance to swing or old standards. I’m what you could consider rhythm handicapped. I can’t dance to save my life. But I know what has a good beat and is easy to dance to. Reading a crowd is so critical to being a great entertainer.
With no prior knowledge of the preferred musical tastes of the guests, I have literally only a few songs to get it right or risk losing the crowd for the evening. Anyone can go online these days and download 10,000 songs and go to radio shack and buy a couple of speakers and open up shop as a disc jockey. What separates the hobbyist versus the professional is the ability to know what will make a group of people of all ages, demographics, and races come together under the lights and dance the night away.
Q: What is your advice for newlyweds?
A: My advice for newlyweds is to take a deep breath and let the professionals do the job you have paid them to do. I don’t know too many people that worry whether the roofer or the plumber is going to do the job right. Why do the newly married (or newly engaged) spend so much time worrying if the cake will look just right or will the photographer take the right photos, or if the food is going to taste good? Do your homework, set a realistic budget and priortize what is important, hire the best professional you can afford, and take the time to enjoy your special day. If you are worrying about the people you hire then maybe you should reconsider who you are hiring? There is a prominent national wedding planner that I heard speak once that said, “Why do couples go all out to get the $2000 vegetable plate yet think they can get great entertainment for under $500?” I think that statement speaks volumes about priorities.
Q: Is there an event that you remember more than anyother?
A: The one event that sticks out more than all others happened back in 1997. I was hired by a father to by the entertainment for his son and fiance’s wedding reception. What I didn’t know until I showed up was that the son and the new bride were Korean and spoke no English. They brought CD’s for me to play featuring authentic Korean music. Amazingly enough, the event went very well, though I had to have a translator nearby to help me with any announcements. I learned a couple of things that night. First, I learned to spend significant time getting to know the clients and their specific needs. I assumed it would be English speaking since the parents spoke English. Secondly, I learned to make sure I understand the traditions and customs that each family wants or needs at their event.
And lastly, I learned that good music transcends all nationalities. At one minute I am playing a traditional Korean song and the next I am playing Brown Eyed Girl!
Q: One more question: How much should a DJ cost?
A: According to the American Disc Jockey Association, a professional disc jockey will average $750-$1500 for services that include delivery set-up, tear-down of a professional sound system, emcee services, coordination, music programming and 3-6 hours of entertainment. Whatever your spend on your disc jockey, I would remind you to READ YOUR CONTRACT before signing an agreement. Understanding the terms of agreement will help you avoid disappointment on the day of your event.
I had a great time speaking with Clayton, and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for Top-notch entertainemnt at their event. Visit him Here at knoxweddingdj.com. There is alot mor information in his website, and of course, he is easy to reach!

Lunday Wedding
Posted on September 30, 2009
Well how ever could I forget to post such a great wedding! The Lundays! Complete with golf cart to get around this huge venue up in the mountains. It didn’t take long to realize that the guys can jump high in the air for some fun pictures, one even looking like he could levitate.
We had a great time doing pictures, a bit sunny, but I think we got some great shots! Another day well spent with a great couple! I hope you enjoy their pictures.

Jennifer and Johnny’s big day!
Posted on September 30, 2009
Jennifer and Johnny, What a great couple! These two just got hitched last weekend in Harriman TN. Their wedding was fantastic! They kicked it off with a slide show that showcased their lives together, and of course some of the engagement photos we took a few months ago. It was a great way to kick off the wedding.
Weather didn’t cooperate with us. The day started perfectly but once we were ready to begin, the sky opened up. It finally tapered off during the reception, but unfortunately is was dark outside by this time.
The reception took place at the church in a jym. You would never know it was in such a place. It had white fabric draped all over, giving it the appearance of being inside a tent! They put christmas lights on the other side of the fabric which shined thru, added to the ambiance. How cool was this place! The caterer did a good job, and the excitement was helped by the DJ.
I want to congratulate the newlyweds, and wish them good luck!

The end of the road, but not really….
Posted on August 22, 2009
Well, I’ve just finished getting the music together and planning a few last minute details for our final DJ event. It is a wedding today at The Tea Room in Norris. This one should be pretty exciting because we put together a custom medley of music for their first dance. It’s going to start with the normal slow dance type song and mix into several different dance songs! Everything from Baby Got Back to Kung Fu Fighting. It should be lots of fun! They have props ready to go, and they have been rehearsing for 2 weeks! We have been DJ’ing weddings now for over 9 years. It has been a great business, and it has been a blast! There is nothing like filling up the dance floor with the music your spinning!
But as one door closes, another one opens. We will be focusing 100% on our photography. It is our new love, and we can’t wait to see where we can take this business!

Some quick Pictures
Posted on July 22, 2009
A friend of mine asked for some pictures, and who am I to ever say no? I love snapping photos and working with various softwares to produce a final image. My goal is always to spark some sort of reaction. From “Wow, I look good”, to “I remember what a wonderful day that was!”. Capturing moments in life is what makes this job great!
I can’t wait to find out where my camera takes me next!

Rachel and David’s Big day!
Posted on July 8, 2009
Well, another great day and another fantastic wedding! The sun was bright but the temperature mild. The ceremony took place in the groom’s father’s back yard. What a view! The reception took place at Calhouns on the River.
Okay, this is one of the neatest things I have seen at a reception, and it is defenitely worth sharing. As you know, when ever the glasses are clanked, the newlyweds have to kiss. Well, they put a special twist on this. They had the names of all the attending couples. Whenever the glasses rang loud, they drew a couple’s name from a basket. This couple would have to kiss, and however they kissed, was the same way the newlyweds were to kiss. It started off with some regular kisses, but as the night progressed, the kisses got more and more elaborate, until finally making it to the final kiss from David’s Dad and Mom. They did a choreographed routine, starting with kisses up her arm, a little rodeo rangling, among other things, and finished off with a BIG WET ONE! Check out the picture below for the beginning of this!

Everyone wanted to lend a helping hand with the her makeup!

I do.

Nothing like an open field with daisies.

Joy and Bryan’s Wedding
Posted on July 8, 2009
Well, the day has finally come. It started as a small wedding, but as the father of the bride told me, it just kept on growing as most things do. They had a fantastic ceremony at Joy’s father’s house, followed with a reception outside in the back yard. It was a little steamy that day, but they had some great coolers in the tent, and the shade was certainly nice.
I told her dad that he should rent out his home for ceremonies. The spiral staircase and the large open living room was perfect for a reception. They were defenitely lucky to have such a great location so close by!
Joy and Brian had originally picked out the wedding ring together. What Joy didn’t know, was Brian had been saving up for a much nicer ring. She had no idea, and when he presented the ring to during the ceremony, she actually screamed!

Our bride striking a pose!

Always one of my favorite shots, the "Jump" capture!

I don't know what these were, but they were tasty.

The best part.

The surprise wedding ring.
